About
Sarah Pratt
Principal, Sarah Pratt & Associates. Law Institute Accredited Specialist in criminal law.
Full profile
A career built in criminal law.
Sarah holds a Bachelor of Laws from La Trobe University, and a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Journalism from RMIT University. She was admitted to practice in 2009.
Before her admission, Sarah spent two years as secretary to a number of barristers at Flagstaff Chambers. That gave her early, first-hand experience of how criminal matters are prepared and run at the Bar.
After admission, Sarah worked in private practice before joining Victoria Legal Aid. She started there as a lawyer in the Summary Crime division and rose to Senior Lawyer in the Indictable Crime team. In that role she ran a range of complex indictable matters, with a particular focus on homicide, and mentored and trained junior lawyers.
In 2015 Sarah returned to private practice as a Senior Associate. In 2018 she founded Sarah Pratt & Associates.
Sarah has sat on the Custody Reference Group as a representative of Victoria Legal Aid. She has also been part of the Law Institute of Victoria's mentoring program.
Sarah believes that strong solicitor advocacy early in a matter is integral to her clients' defence. She takes a hands-on approach from the outset, so that every client's case is well prepared and properly argued from the start.
Sarah will soon begin a Master of Criminology and Policy, continuing her commitment to understanding the wider criminal justice system.
